Has Dancing with the Stars jumped the shark?
Me thinks it has.
I wonder, did the original creators of DWTS over in England have people like this in mind when they created the show?
- Yet another ABC Soap actor (and I use the term loosely)
- yet another obscure senior citizen
- yet ANOTHER blonde
bimbobombshellactress(ish) – or at least she used to be. - yet ANOTHER football player with 2 left feet
- a reality tv “star” x SIX
- 90210 throwback – again
- a tv reporter (again)
- an Olympic athlete (again)
- an ABC Bachelor/Bachlorette (again)
- I don’t even know HOW to categorize Kate Gosselin – she falls under so many of the above.
- Semi-obscure actress turned reality show host?
- Kardashian Look-a-like scantily clad pop band member (ala Cheetah Girl & 2 of the Spice GIrls)
- Seriously – Kate Gosselin has EIGHT YOUNG CHILDREN that she will foist off on someone else in order to attend to the maaaaannnnyyyyy hours of rehearsal that all these people have to do. Of course, that will mean taking time away from her book tour, too. How ever will she handle it. *rolls eyes*
Pamela Anderson – reality tv & felon
Shannen Doherty – reality tv & felon
Kate Gosselin – reality tv “Octomom”
Nicole Scherzinger – reality tv & singer
Erin Andrews – who?
Niecy Nash – reality tv
Evan Lysacek – athlete
Aiden Turner – soap star
Jake Pavelka – reality tv
Chad Ochocinco – athlete
Buzz Aldrin – “Octogenarian”
I’m left wondering just how many “seasons” we have left of DWTS. Will they finally downgrade the name to “Dancing with the used-to-be-famous-but-not-necessarily-in-a-good-way”, or perhaps “Dancing with the people-who-have-something-to-plug”? MAYBE it should be “Dancing with the reality “Stars””.
I can say that for myself, I used to watch it live every week, both nights. I’d shush my kids, shut the door and just enjoy the show. Now, I tivo it and IF I watch them the next morning, it’s a surprise. At least last season, I watched for Donny Osmond & Kelly Osbourne. The season before, Marie Osmond (ALSO a mother of 8!). They were people to root for.
It leaves me wondering, also, if this is why some of the pro dancers don’t compete – like Jonathan Roberts this year, Juliana Hough last year.
Recapping the week + a giveaway
Such a momentous week this was! Of course, there was that lil hubub on Tuesday, but BUT, do you know what else happened?
Zachary started doing puzzles! I’d bought him this wooden puzzle for Christmas but didn’t it put it away well enough and he & his sister found it. They futzed around with it for a couple of days, and then it SOMEHOW got opened. Somehow. I’m sure it was a sprite or a gremlin or something. Anyway, Zachary kept trying to get in there, and I finally relented and opened it for him last night and that boy went to town! He loved it. He played with it for well over an hour. Later, both Libby & Zachary played with it for another hour or so before they got around to pretending they were action figures or something. But it was just SO cool to watch!
This morning, Zachary woke up WAY TOO early, and wasn’t interested in his bottle, so I pulled the puzzle over to him (he insisted on having it in the bed) and he went to work on it again. Last night, he was being a very 20-month-oldish in trying to force the pieces in. This morning, he woke up with a new tactic in mind, and now he finesses them into place a lot more gently, and therefore, more successfully. I sat beside him, doing the animal noises of each animal when he’d get the piece in, and tell him what it was.
In other news, there’s been some fun stuff going on at my other sites, so I thought I’d let you know.
On Reality…really?, I wrote about this week’s fun on Dancing with the Stars.
Over on my reviews blog, I reviewed Ghiradelli Chocolates (yeah, I know you’re jealous now!), Promise SureShots (that I have coupons to give out!) and Chex Mix Bars. The best part of all that was that along with the Chex Mix Bars – I got a GREAT giveaway for you as well! But you’ll have to go over there to see what I mean
On my photography blog, I posted a beautiful photo for today’s photohunter theme, Together.
Finally, this weekend I will be working on moving my site to my new host (if you are in the market for a new web host, PLEASE let me know!), so I’m mostly posting this for those who read through their RSS feeds. I’m hoping to fix the IE problems, as well as update things, etc. Hopefully, it won’t be too long or too painful!

Alright, whose big idea was this?
So, we finally got the “approval” for vacation – which starts tomorrow. So whose big idea was it to have not 1, not 2 but ALL THREE of my kids run fevers this week? First it was Libby for a few days – nothing really more than a fever, but still – a fever. Then last night, Zachary started with one, and was up until 2am. At 6, he woke me up by crawling over my head with his hot little body. I called Anthony in to sit with him so I could go make him a bottle and Anthony said “mom, I feel funny”. Yep, you guessed it – fever. What the hell? Doesn’t that “somebody” know that I still have so much to do to get this house ready for the imminent inspection that will undoubtedly happen 1 or 2 days after we get back from Tennessee? Doesn’t that “somebody” know that I rely HEAVILY upon my oldest to help me, both with the youngest kids and around the house? Doesn’t that “somebody” know that I need this vacation BADLY?
So now the 2 boys are back in bed, each having been Tylenol’d and I’m sitting here with a headache and trying to come up with a list of TO DO for the day. The hotels are booked. Friday night in Lexington, VA – where I’ll HOPEFULLY – FINALLY – get to meet my best friend Angel for the very first time! Saturday night in Powell, TN. Sunday through Wednesday in Pigeon Forge, TN. I haven’t booked it yet, but we’ll be going back to Powell on Thursday night, and then the tentative plan is to head back North on Friday, stopping in to meet a friend of ours in West Virginia.
Jimmy had a job interview yesterday. When he got there, the job was for something completely different that he really isn’t qualified for (gotta love head hunters), but then they mentioned another position that they have been having a really hard time filling – a web marketer – which is something he really enjoys doing and is really good at – and so he jumped at that and he was told afterward that he’s their number 1 candidate! So hopefully by the time we get back, we’ll know something. He’s really fed up with his current job – not so much the job, but the people. So I guess it’s time for a change.
I don’t remember if I blogged about it, but I went to the neurologist again last week. He’s going to continue to monitor my tremor but says it’s a tell-tale sign of a particular muscle disease (no, I can’t remember what he named it) – and that he’d order the brain MRI with contrast to see if there are any more lesions other than the 1 that they found last time. He continued to try and qualm my fears by telling me that people with diabetes, people who have migraines, etc. would have a lesion on their brain. I don’t have those so I don’t know what he was trying for.
Oh, and we had a birthday party for me on Saturday. Libby & I made the cake, and we had lots of unhealthy party foods. It was fun
You may have noticed that my blog keeps changing appearance. That’s because I’m not happy with my current theme, nor can I find one that I’m THRILLD with – so I will most likely have to make my own again – and perhaps I’ll get a chance to do that during my vacation.
Oh and I finally bit the bullet and did what I needed to do to make my photo greeting cards! I’m thinking about setting up a shop on etsy, just to see what happens. Ok, I really did set up an Etsy shop – go check me out!
I did watch Dancing with the Stars, but haven’t had time to blog about it – but I was really surprised by Priscilla Presley (but omg, what has she done to her FACE?). It’ll definitely be interesting to see who goes home next week!
Oh – and does anyone else watch Big Brother? Gawwwwd, how annoying that show is but I HAVE TO WATCH. Like a train wreck or something. Survivor… eh – it’s all been so done that it’s no big deal if I watch it (although, of course, I make sure I do! LOL). I’m looking forward to the return of Amazing Race, though. I do not, I REFUSE to watch American Idol – the only reality show that people really seem to be DIE HARD fans of – but not me. Thanks but no thanks LOL
Hmmmm – anything else? I dunno. I know I have been missing from your blogs. I hope to get a chance to visit next week during my quiet times (ha. ha. ha.) If not, please know that I DO think about you and am feeling very guilty for having missed out on the last couple of weeks!
Ok, I’m off to go do SOMETHING to get this house ready for the inspection while I wait and hope that these mysterious fevers GO AWAY.

Dancing with the Stars – Live Blogging!
I’m so psyched that Dancing with the Stars is back! I’ve somehow become a Reality TV junkie, and have really missed this show. I am hoping that this season will be just as much fun to watch as the last two, and I have the feeling it will.
The opening number of all thep rofessionals was really awesome. Fun, flashy and very sexayyyyy. I just wish they’d calm down with the camera work so we can actually WATCH them dance!
Tonight was the men’s “edition” and they call it “Macho Monday” … well, we’ll see about that. LOL
First up was Penn Gillette. He’s a BIG guy. He’s paired with Kym Johnson, who is just soooooo cute. She did wonders with Joey Fatone and Mark Cuban, so we’ll see what she can do with him.
They danced the cha-cha-cha this week. He did pretty good for the first time – he’s big, so he’s not quite as quick most of the dances really require you to be, but still, he did pretty well. LOL When they were finished dancing and went over to Tom, Penn started off by challenging the judges with “what do you got? What do ya got?” Len mentioned foot work and Penn blamed Kym LOL Bruno wants him to be refined. Carrie Ann liked his energy & agreed about the foot work (and his monstrous feet).
Scores – ouch. 5-6-5 Total of 16.
Next up, Jason Taylor, apparently a football player LOL Yeah, I don’t get out much. He’s a big guy too. All kinds of macho, muscular. He’s paired with Edyta Slowinska and they danced the fox trot. He moved with alot more grace than you typically see out of first week participants. They really did well for the first week and their scores reflected that. 7-8-7 for total of 22.
Next, Christian de la Fuente – an actor, I guess. He’s niiiiice to look at, to be sure. He’s paired with Cheryl Burke, 2x winner of DWTS. They danced the cha-cha-cha and he did pretty well – kind of stiff, but muchhhhh better than Cheryl’s previous partner (Clyde the really tall dude). I think he’ll have a good chance just because he’s so much smaller in stature. Their score – 7-7-7
Two time winner Julianne Hough is paired with ‘comedian’ Adam Corolla – obnoxious at it’s best. I thought he did pretty well, but the judges boxed his foxtrot with 5-5-5. (he called Carrie Ann a bitch) lol
Mario – apparently doesn’t have a last name – but sings quite nicely. I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but this boy is like … a mirror image of Chris Rock! He’s paired with Karina Smirnoff. During their 4 week practice session, though, she had to have neck surgery – but you’d never know it. They did really good for a first week – he can actually move his hips, which is just crucial in this competition. They got the highest scores of the night – 8-8-8-!
Finally, Steve Guttenberg and Anna Trebunskaya – Steve’s older, so he’s not quite so fluid, but you can tell he’s really into this so it’ll be fun to watch. Although it was kind of like watching it in slow motion. LOL They got 6-6-6 … definitely room for improvement.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see the ladies on Tuesday night!
By the way, did Samantha Harris look fabulous or what?

Reality TV Tuesday (spoiler!)
Dancing with the Stars on Monday was a disappointment to the judges and to me. I really expected more. It was more along the lines of the first few weeks, rather than the finals. And ummm… Marie & Jonathan… wtf? Weird Weird Weird. I think she sealed her fate as a runner up. The only dance worth it’s weight was Helio & Julianne’s freestyle, which really was cool.
Tuesday’s finals… I figured Marie would go out next. It was nice to see everyone back again… well, most of them anyway LOL It was also a nice way to remember why these people left lol (I’m rotten, I know)
All in all, I love this show. And the finalists, both Mel & Helio, both deserve the title.
But ultimately -
spoiler.
