batteries not included

image I feel like I should have sent my 4 BlogHer roommates a disclaimer before allowing them to commit to rooming with me.

It would have gone something like this:

Dawn has a number of health problems that may or may not hinder your enjoyment of your room-sharing arrangement while attending the BlogHer conference in New York City.

Those health concerns include, but are not limited to:

Herniated discs in her neck preclude her from laying in one position for any length of time, therefore causing her to toss and turn, and which will also cause her to rise much earlier than you probably will.
An abdominal hernia will preclude her from lifting anything, and although it should also preclude her from bending, you may or may not trip over suitcases that she can’t move.
A stomach ulcer which causes extreme pain if left ignored – i.e. should she wait too long to eat upon realization that she’s hungry, she may think nor talk of anything but eating until such pain has been fed.
Arthritis, primarily in her legs, feet and knees, preclude her from doing any walking farther than to that bathroom, particularly if she’s worn cheap sneakers.
Extremely low self-esteem and social ineptitude, causing her to cling to anyone who, even for a small moment, is nice to her. You are then stuck with her. For life. Or until you hurt her.

Should you have any questions, reservations or fears, please contact nuthatch@dawniemom.com

Although they really were awesome, I felt like an 80 yr old – limping along and hoping for the best.  B l a h.

not the #blogher10 post you’re expecting

I am only one of the 2,400 registered attendees that descended upon New York City this weekend to attend the BlogHer conference. That’s not including the hundred(s?) of exhibitors that were also there, the hundreds of hotel staff that were there, the hundreds of people there for other reasons.

As you might imagine, there’ll be hundreds of posts flooding the blogosphere this week about their BlogHer experiences, and I’m sure that I’ll write a recap soon.  But this post has been formulating in my head for days now, and now that I’ve finally gotten my blog software back into working order, I’m writing it, dammit.

I woke up early Sunday morning.  I snuck out of the room containing my 3 sleeping roommates and went to the lobby. I asked the bellman where I should go for breakfast (that wasn’t the hotel restaurant). He pointed me towards a deli around the corner.

I walked over, oogled over the incredibly low prices and ordered.  Scrambled eggs, ham, toast, homefries – $3.75.  Seriously!!!    Along with my coffee and a bottle of soy milk for it, I walked to a fountain outside of the hotel.  I ate my breakfast, sharing my toast with the sparrows.  I breathed in the quiet solitude of a 6am Sunday in the heart of midtown Manhattan.

More wordless Wednesday for more WW fun.

Hello… have we met?

Hi there!  Welcome to my blog.  I’m so glad you’ve taken a moment to come meet me.

My name is Dawn. I’m a 43 yr old mom of 3, blogger and photographer.  My hubby & I have been together for 15 years and have 3 beautiful children.  I’ve been blogging for about 6 years and just love it.  In fact, I love it so much, I have several!

This one, Coming to a Nursery Near You, is my family blog.  I began this blog shortly after learning I was pregnant with my 3rd child, Zachary.

When he came along, the world changed. He rocks.  He’s awesome.  He completed our family just perfectly.

He joined our other two kids – both of them the most super of super kids.

Big brother Anthony, 10 years his baby brother’s senior, watches over the ducklings and is a burgeoning rock star AND hockey All Star.

And of course, big/little sister, Liberty, the princess girly girl who totally loves bugs and is going to be an artist.

beautyWe are a homeschooling family, and in fact, one of the reasons I began doing product reviews was because of them.  They love helping with the reviews, giving me their opinions and of course, testing out or modeling or playing with whatever it happens to be.  They love the Fed/Ex and UPS truck when it pulls up because they (and I) never know what it’s gonna be!

We are also a 1 income family, so that means I cook – ALOT – from scratch.  I prefer it, in all honesty – as it’s  much MUCH cheaper more frugal and way better for our family than eating out or buying pre-packaged stuff that just costs way too much for boxed food!  I blog about my cooking adventures as well.  I love cooking and new this year, growing our own food as well!

I suppose, though, the one thing I am most passionate about (besides my children, of course) is photography.  I hardly go anywhere without my Nikon.  I’ve been interested in photography for what seems like most of my life, and am thrilled to finally have the equipment to really bring out what I see in the world!   So of course, I also have a photography blog and website.

Finally, although I don’t particularly blog about it, but do on a semi-regular basis is blog design, graphics design and all things related to blogs.  I host, I create, I install, I design.

Well, I’m so glad you stopped by. I hope you’ll become a regular reader, friend, follower, etc.

Let’s connect!
