Memories

Amazed girl at the circus

When I wrote about the circus, I talked about how cool the circus was, how much fun it looks like it is and about tradition.   Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to continue that tradition with our kids for a variety of reasons.  I’ve always wanted to, though, because childhood memories like that last a life time.  It’s what helps continue those traditions.  They stay in their lives forever. They make them want to take their own kids to the circus. To experience all the joy and excitement.

As parents, we all want to provide those moments and experiences that our children will keep for a lifetime.  Memories of snips, snails & puppydog tails, sugar, spice & everything nice.  Memories that tide them over during those not so good times, of course.  Memories that they can’t wait to share with their own kids.    So I cannot WAIT to share this with you – because as I mentioned before, I’ll be in Boston the same weekend as Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus! annnnnnnnnd NOW so will my kids because we’re getting to take them to the CIRCUS!!!  I’m sooo excited!  Seriously, cannot WAIT excited.

My kids have been watching that souvenir DVD that we’d gotten last month, and every time they watch it, they come to tell me about something SO COOL about what they’ve seen.  The lions, the tigers, the bears (Oh My!) – but oh yeah “Hey mom – DID YOU KNOW they’ve got elephants??!” LOL  It’s so funny to hear and see such enthusiasm over a DVD – and they have NO IDEA that they’re gonna get to see it in person.

NONE!

Photohunt Saturday – View

daisy-small

I was going to use a more traditional photo for this theme until today.  This photo is my therapist’s daughter, Daisy. She adopted Daisy last year, and the adoption was supposed to be final this week.

Last weekend, therapist & Daisy were at the farmer’s market, and therapist was talking to someone and Daisy was just sort of standing there, and I smiled and waved at her. She doesn’t know me, but obviously, she was intrigued by the crazy person with the camera.  I shot several pictures of her, and then they were gone.

When I came home, I went through my photos, and was just so taken with this one particular photo of Daisy.  There were others where Daisy was smiling, but this one stood out.  I’m not even sure why.  I decided, though, that I’d print and frame it for therapist, as a little “congrats on the adoption” remembrance.  So today, when she came for our normal appointment, at the end, I told her that the gift that had been sitting at her feet under my kitchen table was for her.  She was quite surprised, and taken aback, and I explained it was just a little something in honor of Daisy’s adoption. I also had enclosed a card expressing that same thing.  She then told me that it was still being “considered", etc.

ok, so finally, she opened the photo and I could see her eyes tear up.  She was so emotionally surprised by the view of this little girl.  She kept thanking me and I could tell she truly liked the photo.  The view of this little girl, who is obviously such an important part of her life, stopped her cold in her tracks. It was so satisfying for me to see someone so affected by my photograph.

This is my entry for the weekly photo hunter theme.  You can find out more at TNChick’s site :)

Suckitude

I know, I’ve been very quiet.  I just feel like I’m so far behind on everything.  My house is a wreck – yet again – and no one else seems to care, nor want to help fix it.  Our homeschooling schedule – of which we have none – can’t seem to stay in place.  We have no schedule, no routine, nothing.  My children do not listen to me.  Well, specifically, Libby doesn’t – and it’s more & more frustrating day by day.

[edited out]

My photography, which I’d really hoped would help me, frustrates me as well because I’m not really doing anything WITH the thousands of pictures I’ve taken.  What good are they if they just sit on my computer? or on my blog? NADDA.

There’s things that I’d like to be doing, participating with online, like Blissfully Domestic’s new thing, Blog Nosh, etc.  Instead, I bury my head in the sand. I beg off participating because I KNOW I cannot commit to doing much of anything with any regularity.

I’ve decided to try lap booking with my kids’ schooling as a way of making things more hands-on for them. But the concept is baffling to Anthony so he is balking at it. ARGH.

Check out this photo of this gorgeous dried flower arrangement from the farmer’s market this weekend:

This was just one of so many gorgeous arrangements but I didn’t want to take pics of all of them lest she think I was gonna try and replicate them.

My apologies to those whose blogs I visit – I’ve been reading in my reader, trying to catch up. I am reading, but I know, I should be commenting too!

Anyway, that’s where I’ve been. blahh.

Ahhh, those first few moments…

You know the ones – when the baby you’ve carried around, nourished and protected for the last 9 months, is finally brought out into the world. He or she looks up at you, and you look into those little eyes, and you both just *know*  – you KNOW – this is what you’ve been waiting for. THIS LITTLE PERSON – you’ve been waiting for your whole life.   And it’s not just the first baby that this happens with.  It’s the 2nd, the 3rd, the 12th (oh god help them!).

When I had my children – before they got here, I wondered how I could possibly possibly POSSIBLY have enough space in my heart for another child. After all, my whole heart and soul was dedicated to my existing child/ren.

And yet, it did – it expanded 10 fold.

Those first few moments…

That delightful baby smell (no, not from that end) – when you first hold that baby – and his or her smell is branded on your brain, and in your heart.

Those first few moments…

The sounds, the squeaks and squeals that he/she makes when you hold them, feed them, or even just pick them up. The little noises they make when they’re asleep and you’re asleep and instantly you’re awake – because… was that squeak an OK squeak?

Those first few moments….

When you know you’ve found what you didn’t know you were missing. The instant you know – you’re a mom.

shower

Kristen, of Motherhood Uncensored, and Rebecca of Girl’s Gone Child, are both having babies! So their friends have thrown them a virtual baby shower, and their guests were asked to blog about what made those first few weeks of new babydom so special :)   This is mine.

Kristen & Rebecca, I wish you both the very best, quickest, happiest of birth days for those new baby girls! :)
