Daniel-X is my new hero.

I LOVE James Patterson.  Ever since my sister got me turned onto his writing, I’ve been ravenous to read anything new that comes out.  While I was pregnant with Zachary, I went back and read every single Cross series book.  I’ve read all of the Women’s Murder Club series.  I’ve read most of the books he’s written that aren’t in those 2 series.  I LOVE his writing.  I love reading in general, though.

product-main-dangerous-days My son Anthony, though – he’s a different story.  He’s always looked at reading as a necessary and unpleasant CHORE.  The only thing I’ve ever gotten him to read that he enjoyed was the Treehouse series of books, and to be honest, those were quite a few levels below what should be his level of reading.  But nothing ever engaged him enough to want to read.

Until The Dangerous Days of Daniel-X.

Daniel-X is James Patterson’s newest brainchild.  Geared towards “young adults” as well as their parents, it held my NON-reader’s attention from page 1 till the end of the book – which he got to within DAYS!

The story and James Patterson’s writing style (short chapters, lots of description) kept him engaged virtually every waking hour.  He kept coming to me to tell me the latest that he’d read and his ideas about what might happen next.  He hadn’t even finished the book and was asking me about the next one.

I think that any book that can engage a kid’s imagination like that – and inspire him to then make up more stories when he goes outside to play with friends – inventing different scenarios, etc. is worth its weight in gold.

When that SAME book can also entertain the parent? PRICELESS!

Special thanks to MomCentral and MotherTalk for the opportunity to review this book!

Wordless Wednesday – How Pretty! edition

This is my entry for Wordless Wednesday. Go visit WW Headquarters for more Wordless fun.

My baby’s got a booboo

I was always very proud of the fact that my kids have never had problems with diaper rash.  The only time my oldest got a rash was before I realized that he couldn’t handle citrus juices.  With my daughter, I knew better than to give her citrus juices, and she had virtually no diaper rashes except when she was teething.

With Zachary, this child has a diaper rash virtually every other DAY.  He has one right now.  I haven’t figured out the source. It’s so frustrating, and heartbreaking, when I change him and he screams and cries because it hurts. I let him hang around without a diaper to make sure he’s dry. I slather on stuff to act as a barrier.  Eventually, it goes away – but a week later or so it seems, it’s back.  It’s truly a nightmare for me to have to change him, because of how badly it hurts him.  I had no idea what else to do.

It wasn’t until I visited http://www.vusionbaby.com that I found out that some diaper rashes can be because the baby has a yeast infection.  I read about the signs and symptoms and now I know that if his diaper rash lasts longer than 72 hours, I should call his pediatrician.

Apparently, there is a better way to try and help your baby’s bum than this:

DSC_7263_edited-1

vusion logoIt’s called Vusion® Ointment and it’s a prescription skin medicine used to treat diaper rash that also has a documented yeast infection in children 4 weeks and older who have a normal immune system. Your healthcare provider will need to confirm that your child’s diaper rash is also complicated by a yeast infection. (according to their website).

If you’re having diaper rashy issues, particularly if it’s from a yeast infection (ok, not YOU, but your baby), contact your pediatrician.  Then go check out http://www.vusionbaby.com – they even have a $25 rebate on there for you!

Thanks to MomCentral for letting me know about Vusion!  Me & Zachary’s bum appreciate it!

It’s 3:30am – do you know where your man is?

I know where mine is.  He’s on his way back to work.  He’s been there since 7am yesterday morning. 20 hours later, he’s still there.  He’s been “allowed” to leave long enough to literally run home at lunchtime so I could go buy some xantac.  His boss went to dinner for 4 hours while hubby stayed at work to try and finish things up.  Boss came back at 9pm.  At 11pm, I called hubby to ask him to bring milk home when he came home, because we’re out.  At 3am, when Zachary got up looking for his bottle, I called hubby at work to tell him I had to give the baby canned milk.  He got mad, and told boss that he had to go get milk that he was supposed to get at 11.  Boss says, at 3AM, “well, go and get it and then come back”.

wtf?

Luckily, I’d made Jimmy a plate at dinner, so it was ready to pop in the microwave – he hadn’t eaten since noon.  He literally choked dinner down so he could hurry back.

They told him he can’t take today (Wednesday) off – the day he had approved weeks ago as a vacation day.

He’s “salary” – so for the last 5 days that’s he’s been working nearly 20 hours a day, in addition to the 40 he worked last week, plus whatever else he works this week?

He’ll be paid 40 hours for last week, and 40 for this week.  That’s it.  Nothing more.

Defeated.
