saying goodbye

Tomorrow, my dad will say goodbye to his mom, who passed away this week.

funeral-wreath-green-white My dad left home when he was 22(ish).  He’d met and fell in love with an older woman who had 2 kids from previous marriages, and was moving in with her.  He moved in with her, her 2 kids and her parents.  They lived together for a couple of years before getting married.  In 1978.  30 years ago.  30 years he’s been my dad.

It was a culture shock for him to come into our family.  His parents & brothers were not the same type of people as my mother’s side of the family is/was.  They’re not nurturing, they’re not emotional, they’re not engaging.  It is your duty to make the effort to see them, keep them up to date about your lives, the lives of your children, etc.  If you do not, this makes you an outsider.

I really don’t like Summer

Ok, so the first day of summer is TODAY. But the older I’ve gotten, the less I like it.  It’s hot. It’s humid. There’s bugs everywhere.  There’s daily thunderstorms. The sun is a killer.  Even my kids don’t like to go outside in the summer because it’s too hot.  The ONLY relief we get is that here in Northern New Hampshire, Summer lasts for ohhh, about 30 seconds.  No, really.  We have about 3 weeks where it gets oppressively hot (typically) – making it actual BEACH weather.  Of course, we live 59 bazillion miles from the nearest shoreline, so we’re kind of stuck with the lake.

The lake.  Duh duh duhhhhhhh.  It’s not so bad, really.  The kids LOVE IT THERE because there’s lots of sand.  The water – that’s kind of cold, considering it’s just spent the last 9 months FROZEN.  But there’s sand – and there’s grass, and trees.  It’s really quite beautiful, if you don’t mind the BUGS.  Seriously? Last year, we went there around Mother’s Day and I got bit by some itty bitty tiny bug and my entire hand blew UP.  It was not pretty.

What else wasn’t pretty?  ME – in a bathing suit.  Yeah, not a good idea.  I’m not one of those fat women who think we’re all just BEAUTIFUL no matter how many pounds we see when we look at the scale. Nope. I hate bathing suits, mostly because I simply cannot wear them without looking like someone stuffed marshmallows into a straw.

Now true, I HAD lost a lot of weight last year.  So I was looking better than I had before – except for the fact that all that weight was gone, but the SKIN? The skin was still there – so I really looked worse than I had before!

So for me, bathing suits and summer time and just the whole THING makes me crazy.  Between trying to make sure to find a pair of shorts to wear over the bathing suit, lest subject someone else to the SIGHT of these saddlebags, then I’m trying to keep the straps up because my boobs simply do not fit in there.  It’s so not worth it to me.

Do I need to get my butt back on a healthy eating routine? Absolutely.  My butt, my boobs, my thighs, my calves. Yeah, pretty much EVERYTHING.  Boca, take me away!

Seriously, we love Boca stuff. So that’s why I decided to participate in this blog blast from my friends over at Parent Bloggers Network and their partnership with Balanced Living.  “This post was written for Parent Bloggers Network as part of a sweepstakes sponsored by BOCA.”

They’re giving away 3 $150 Visa Gift Cards, so you should go check it out!
