Childhood Memories
When my oldest brother & I were growing up, we didn’t get to have many sugar cereals. Often, it was one of those puffed wheat jobs that needed 3 tablespoons of sugar to make it taste good TO A KID. (Stop rolling your eyes, mom!) But one of the cereals I do remember us having, that didn’t have any sugar but we didn’t mind was Kellogg’s Rice Krispies®. I LOVED Rice Krispies® and still do to this day. We never put anything but bananas in the bowl with them. But oh, was it good! I can still remember being given the very important job of slicing the bananas while my grandfather poured the cereal. My oldest brother didn’t like bananas in his cereal, so the banana? ALL MINE, baby. A banana slice in every bite of snap, crackle & pop® of cereal. Mmmmmmm. It takes me right back to when I was 5. It truly does.
I’ve tried to pass on that yummy tradition to my kids as well. My daughter will, begrudgingly, allow me to put the bananas in her Rice Krispies®. My oldest son? Not so much, but he will learn … one day… to truly Appreciate THE KRISPIE®.
The other thing I really love about Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® is the other neat things you can do with them – the recipes you can make with them! Our favorite, of course, is Rice Krispies® treats. Would you believe they were invented in 1939!? We’ve expanded on the original recipe, though. Instead of just using plain old WHITE marshmallows, in the past we’ve used STRAWBERRY marshmallows and made Strawberry Krispies® Treats! Instead of using plain Rice Krispies®, we’ve used COCOA Krispies® and made Cocoa Krispie Treats. I can put a few tablespoons full of Rice Krispies on the baby’s high chair tray and he’ll munch on them while I’m making breakfast/lunch/dinner. They’re just too cool!
We haven’t tried the Rice Krispies with Real Strawberries® yet, but we will – maybe I’ll get a coupon for them. Hey, speaking of coupons, check out these old boxes! Talk about bringing back memories – but the amounts on the coupons crack me up! LOL
When you get a minute or ten, head on over to Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® site and take a stroll back through your childhood memories. There’s tons to do on the site, including the recipes I mentioned before, games, and you can learn more about their Playing for Keeps program. It’s helping parents & researchers learn the importance of your child’s play. Isn’t that cool?

Love me some Rice Krispies! I put banana on mine, too – and I put sugar on them. Yum – a great snack before bedtime!
