My Mama’s Day

On Saturday, the 5 of us headed over to Lowe’s to look at their plants & flowers.  It’s now getting to the point where even though it’s still hitting the 30s at night, we’re pretty much past the frost stage, so it’s time for me to start thinking about what I want to plant this season.  We were rewarded with some beautiful gerbera daisies and dahlias that I just couldn’t get enough of.

Can’t believe how PINK they are! Love the multicolored dahlias The bees were EVERYWHERE and very happy.

On Mother’s Day, I woke up rather … ambivalent.  I remembered last Mother’s Day and was expecting a repeat performance.  I was up early, so I had some quiet time to myself, which is always preferable for me to start a day.  I wrote something over on squidoo, and eventually, everyone else woke up and Jimmy planned on taking the kids with him shopping.  He volunteered to even take Zachary so I got him dressed as well.   While they were gone, I futzed around on the computer, talked to my brother and washed the dishes.  Still, nothing spectacular for Mother’s Day, but that was OK – at least it was quiet.

When they got home, I jumped in the shower and then was presented with a dozen roses.  They’re a dark red (not very photogenic though) and very pretty.  Then Libby brought me up another present – M & Ms :)   My favorite.  Ok, so this was turning into an ok day!  I went downstairs and Jimmy asked me to help him with something outside.  We went out to the car where he’d left my other present – a brand new bike!  Because nothing says “Thank you for giving me 3 children and devoting 24 hours a day to them” like a fat woman on a skinny bike.  No?

Anyway, we headed down to the park that has a paved bike path.  Libby, as you know, had gotten her new bike last week but hadn’t had chance to ride it.  So this was to be an interesting experience for us both.  It was a BEAUTIFUL day there.  The bike path runs through Franconia Notch State Park, and we started at Echo Lake, where we had lunch.  Zachary napped through that, and Libby wasn’t hungry so she played on the beach.

Yeah, she refused to take off her bike helmet.  She chased the ducks while we ate our lunch.  Then Zach woke up and Jimmy and he chased each other around the grass (while hoping he wouldn’t smash his face on the exposed tree roots).

He LOVED the grass.  Last year, hated it lol.

Check out the snow still left on the slopes of Cannon Mountain!  There were big banks of snow around where we started bik
ing, and I found myself inexplicably making and throwing snowballs at Anthony. Angel On Mother’s Day.  In MAY.

So anyway, when it was time to go biking, omg.  I haven’t done that in like 20 years.  It felt it too.  But at least I didn’t fall.  Libby, though?  She wiped out 2x in 10 minutes – so it wasn’t a very LONG ride, but it was nice while it  lasted!

All in all, a very nice day, although EXHAUSTING.  I couldn’t believe how much the biking took out of me.  But we’ll definitely do it again.  :)

How was your Mother’s Day?
