my trip home, part 2

So when we left off, Tommy, my OUR mom & I were heading down to Newport to see the show that Tommy’s in called Bedroom Farce @ The Newport Playhouse.  I’ve never been to the Playhouse, but my mom & Tommy and everyone else I’ve talked to said it’s a great place, etc. etc.  So I was psyched to finally get to go and see Tommy in a new production, since I hadn’t seen him perform in several years.

We left early, though, so I could take pictures around Newport.  We’d also done the same around Pawtucket (where the majority of my family lives), and I’ve posted lots of pictures over at my photography blog of that.

Once in Newport, we, along with 1/2 the known universe, drove around looking for a parking spot and finally found one, although it was a bit of a walk to the water.  Because my mom’s legs have been bothering her, we walked slow and I really enjoyed seeing some things I might not have noticed, had I been walking at my usual pace.

The tulips and other Spring flowers aren’t out yet up here in Siberia, so it was such a welcome sight to see SPRING! in RI.

This sign was funny on so many levels. The garbage in the water? Not so much.

I just loved this sign – can’t even really tell you why.

Ok, in any case, finally – it was time to head over to the Playhouse and MEET JANE!!  I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally get to meet this woman!  We were fast friends, from the very beginning when I started visiting The Pinks & Blues Girls blog, and she & her sister would visit AND COMMENT on mine.  We IM, twitter, email all the time. So here I was – FINALLY getting to meet her!  I was psyched.

Jane & her husband Steve got there just in time to see me scrambling to find a way into the trunk because I’d locked the keys to my rental IN the trunk and there was NO TRUNK RELEASE BUTTON!  How dumb is that?  Anyway, I found I could fold down the back seat and got in that way.  Auspicious beginnings, hmm?  But we went in and had dinner (which was awesome, people – AWESOME) and then the show.

Bedroom Farce, by Alan Ayckbourn, was truly FUN! and funny.  I laughed several times, and it wasn’t only because my brother was up there on stage!

Ok, This is from the cabaret part of the show – I CANNOT FIND my pics from the play. grrr.  In any case, very funny play – made funnier by MY BABY BRUDDAH.

Isn’t he handsome?

DSC_3377_edited-1

I was so glad to finally get to meet & HUG! Jane AND her handsome hubby Steve.  We really enjoyed the evening with them, and I do hope we can do it again sometime.

As a sidenote – how do you like my eye being closed – I had no idea at the time that it was. Confused

Where has the time gone?

My baby girl turns 5 today.  FIVE!  It’s been 5 years since that moment at 7:59am on April 29th, 2003 – FIVE YEARS!  Wow.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL!!!

This is the outfit that I brought Libby home in:

DSC_3415

She was so tiny, so pink.  I’ve been seeing that outfit in my mind for the last few days, and so today, I took this picture and Libby asked what I was doing. So I told her that it was the outfit that we brought her home from the hospital in, and she giggled.

She was born on a Tuesday and we brought her home on Saturday.  Five years later, we celebrate her birth today, and will party with her on Saturday.  As I mentioned before, here is her outfit for her birthday Party:

She’s grown and changed so much.  I can hardly wait to see what the next year brings.  HOPEFULLY, it’ll bring a middle ground for her & I and also her & her brother.  But even if it doesn’t, I’ll still be so very grateful to have this beautiful little girl in my life for her sixth, sixteenth and (maybe!) sixtieth!

Time Trivia
During your lifetime…

  1. Blinking Amazing!
You’ve blinked about 26 million times in your life time. Apparently we blink about once ever four seconds, or 15 times a minute, and we’re asleep for a third of our lives.
  1. Egg-citing cells!
If it could live that long, a human sperm could swim about 0.8 kilometres (about 0.5 miles). A healthy human sperm swims about 3mm a minutes (about a tenth of an inch).
  1. Lightning speeds!
Light would have travelled about 47.33 million million kilometres (about 29.41 million million miles). Light travels at 299,792 kilometres in one second (186,298 miles per second).
  1. Oh boy oh boy… oh girl…
There have been about 663 million people born. There’s also been about 284 million deaths, an overall increase in the World population of about 382 million people.
  1. Got it nailed!
If left uncut, your fingernails would have grown about 13 centimetres (about 5 inches). They grow about an 2½cm (an inch) a year, four times faster than toenails.

Monday Meme (better late than never)

Monday Morning Meme at writefromkaren.com

1. You have just been introduced to Oprah. What one thing do you want to talk to her about?

  • I would totally ask her how much money she puts towards charities each year and ask about specific ones.    I really LIKE Oprah, but I think she could be doing more.

2. What is the most fun you’ve had so far in 2008? Be specific, tell us all about it.

  • That would probably be the trip to RI this weekend… I got to see my brother perform, got to meet Jane, and spend some time with my mom.  It was really a nice time.

3. Do spelling and grammar mistakes in newspapers and magazines upset you at all? What about spelling and grammar mistakes on blogs? Do you stop reading if there are too many mistakes? Or do you just ignore them? What about your own writing/blog? Are you sensitive about using correct grammar? Do you proofread before hitting that publish button?

  • OMG, yes they do!  I will sit there and ask, out loud, “Do they not HAVE a spell check or editor or proof reader???” lol  Spelling & grammar on blogs I try to ignore.  But if it’s truly atrocious, I will stop reading.  It’s just too irritating, and telling about the person.  As for my blog, yes I DO try to make sure I use proper grammar, correct spelling and I do proofread most times.

4. How early do you start planning your summer vacation? Now tell us, what ARE your plans for summer vacation?

  • We have no plans for summer vacation because we already went on vacation to TN – even if it wasn’t really all that much of a vacation. LOL

Annnnnnnnd I’m back

Miss me much this weekend?

I left right after Jimmy got out of work on Friday night and headed south in my 2008 Ford Focus.  Ohhh, was this a nice car!  Beauuuuuteeeefulllll with a sun roof and everything!  Took me longer than usual, but I got there and had dinner w/my mom and dad.

Saturday, my mom cooked us breakfast and then we dragged Tommy out of bed and I did his head shots for him to use on auditions and whatnot.

Here’s the shot he’ll use when he’s going for a CRAZED PSYCHO role.

Here’s his “Man waiting for bus” shot.

and here’s his choice :)   Isn’t he handsome?

Anyway, after spending 20 minutes of my life I’ll NEVER get back shooting his pics, we headed out to a yard sale that a family friend was having, and then headed to lunch with goofy sister.

Can you tell my sister had missed me?

and I, of course, missed her too.

and they used to fight like cats & dogs! (still do!)

So after an incredibly overpriced, under good lunch, we took Heather home and I stole some FAB-U-LOUS pictures of my nephews – you know, my sister’s OTHER kids… the ones who drive her buggy on a daily basis (prompted by Auntie whenever possible).

LOOK at these faces.

I can’t wait for them to come visit this weekend with my mom & dad.

In ANY case, THEN! we headed back to my mom’s house to get ready to go down to Newport… I think I’ll save that for tomorrow :)
