Tomorrow, the things I didn’t love about our trip…

Quote of the Day:
A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.
–George Moore
We’re home!
and I’m going to bed. Will update soon
It’s too cold to go back downstairs to get the camera case to share some pics, so those will have to wait too.
on the road…
I think it would have been easier to get my son to sleep last night – and then KEEP him asleep, if I’d just had some horse tranquilizers.
There is SOMETHING wrong with him, but I don’t know what the hell it is.
We started our trip off yesterday with a trip to the e.r. at home because he’d woken up with another fever, this one 103.7. Fearing an ear infection, I wanted to make sure if it was or wasn’t before we left the state because the kids’ health coverage doesn’t WORK outside the state. So we went. An hour later, and a severely pissed off little boy later, no ear problems, just an upper respiratory infection. Baby tylenol, blahblahblah. Oooook. So we hit the road.
For the most part, the trip was “uneventful” – in that Anthony has a sore throat and feels like crap. Zachary will startle during naps and wake up SCREECHING. Oh yeah, and we were on the road yesterday from 8am until we got to the hotel last night/this morning at 1:30 AM. Someone else can do the math, because I do not want to think about it. We drove that long because 1) *I* chose to go through New York, rather than around it – and we hit traffic in several spots. 2) When we realized we weren’t gonna get to our first stop at a reasonable time, I tried to call and change the reservation but was told I’d still be “responsible” for the $84 for the other hotel we were supposed to be in. Soooo, we drove. Jimmy drove, really. When Jimmy drives in a busy/populated area, he gets very … nervous/uptight? So much so that he grips the steering wheel like an Indy driver – arms straight out – and so now he’s VERY sore because DUH, he’s not an Indy driver.
So we finally got checked in at 1:30am and around 2:45, we were like “OK BED TIME!!!” only Zachary disagreed. Vehemently – completely – dis-a-greeeed. Screaming, throwing himself backwards, crawling away – anything he could, he tried.
FINALLY, either I or Jimmy got him settled down and he slept. FOR AN HOUR. Then he woke up SCREAMING AND SCREECHING AND CARRYING ON for EVER. It was at least 3 hours. It was probably more like 30 m inutes. I was literally waiting for someone to knock at the door to find out why we were skinning our child alive. You would have thought we were, the way he was screaming. The only way I was able to get him to sleep was by walking with him and then I finally was able to sit in the chair and he fell asleep. Then I was up at 8am to call my friend to arrange to meet.
OY!
The VAN – oh, I’m so glad we bought that van. It’s been a dream. Phew!
So now, this morning, I’m sitting here typing and waiting for my best friend to arrive. She & I Have been best friends for nearly 3 years now, but have never met face to face. So she’ll be here in a little while and we’re gonna go swimming in the hotel pool and chill out together. I’m excited about that. The kids are sleeping, Jimmy’s sleeping.
We’ve only got about 5-6 hours left to drive today, so we’re not in any rush to check out, so that’ll be helpful. Comfort Inns serves an AWESOME breakfast, so that’ll save some time too. I’m gonna go chill. Hopefully.
