Carnival of the Recipes – Saucy edition!
I volunteered to host this week’s Carnival of the Recipes and was asked for a theme, and I thought, what better time than to check out everyone’s sauce recipes – I was referring to bbq sauce, but we got some interesting takes on that too!
- Shawn at Everything & Nothing, starts us off with really yummy sounding Shawn’s Baked Beans recipe (and she also has a yummy sounding thing to do with those poor, naked ribeyes!)
- One of my most favorite things in the whole world is a good BBQ Pulled Pork recipe, and I have shared that recipe with you over at my recipe blog, My Tasty Space.
- Sue over at Random Recipes offers us a taste of Stove-top barbecue chicken, which looks nice & easy, two of my favorite words when cooking (and other things LOL)
- If you’re a fan of slow-cookin like I am, then this “Wow That’s Fabulous BBQ” is for you! I find her “secret” quite interesting and will definitely be trying it!
- More Slowwww cookin at Slow Cooker Recipes with a Honey BBQ Pork dish.
- Annette at Frugal Journey offers us a taste of her Taco Salad, something she made up when she didn’t feel like the same ol’ same ol’ one day.
- Also offering us tacos this week is Shinie at “I guess this is Growing Up” with a Street Tacos recipe.
- Cherry presents Salmon and Chicken Doria Recipe: My Guilty Pleasure posted at My Diet Methods Reviews and Recipes.
- Chicken Recipes are the spotlight, and here’s an interesting recipe for Next Day Left Over Fried Chicken BBQ and a BBQ Chicken Crock Style recipe.
- Jussi presents Comments on: Sambal Toeoeloe – Chili Sauce posted at Sambal Toeoeloe – Chili Sauce.
- World Famous recipes offers us a nice, simple BBQ sauce recipe.
- Texas BBQ Beef & Beans are on the menu over at Famous Recipes this week.
- Christmas Recipes is offering up some Barbequed Meatballs.
- And wrapping things up, Chocolate lovers will love THIS sauce, offered by Suzanne at Adventures in Daily Living. YUM.
Next week’s Carnival, hosted at (http://christmasrecipes.wordpress.com/), will feature Christmas in July! Those who wish to participate should get their recipe submissions in by Noon of next Saturday (the 21st) or if you’d like to host, send an email to shawn.lea@gmail.com with the word host in the subject

Giveaways Galore
about 1 year ago - 4 comments
This holiday season, economic times are making things really hard for people to even begin to think about holiday gifts. Whether you celebrate Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or a combination of all 3, finding spare cash around to pick up gifts for those we love is really hard.
(Particularly when there no money even coming IN right now.)
So perhaps that’s why now, even more than ever, I’m drawn to all the holiday giveaways that these awesome bloggers are doing right now. I’ve already been EXTREMELY lucky by winning Day 4 of TypeAMom’s 12Days of Giveaways. THAT made my day, I’ll tell you!
Now, MomGenerations are in on it too! Today is Day 1, and they’re giving away some fabulous stuff (of course). So go check it out – and enter (but not too many times – ya know – cuz I gotta win everything!!!) LOL

e-lance, freelance – ba-lance…
about 1 year ago - 4 comments
yeah, so although I call myself a stay at home mom, the truth is, I’ve been a work at home mom forever. The problem is, I have a hard time marketing myself and getting out there to really say “HEY! I can help you!”. Then, even when I DO get out there, I have a hard time charging people lol Yeah, I know – I know. But it’s true.
I also have problems with finding balance in my world when I AM on a project. That results in Mr. Passive Aggressive, who is already completely miserable in HIS job, then coming home and giving the kids a hard time or whatever. I know I’m not the only one who has the problem of not being able to get myself into a routine, but now it seems that it’s even more important than it used to be.
Without going into much detail, I’ll just say that Jimmy’s days are numbered at his current job. So he told me yesterday to figure out how much we can make freelancing until he can find something else. This isn’t easy when you consider the economy. But I told him I would – that’s why some of you may have received an email from me through LinkedIn yesterday – I was asking for networking help in finding freelance jobs for both of us. Here is a list of things that we are qualified to do:
Me –
- Photography – product photography, portraits, automotive & real estate.
- Web design – full websites or blogs, php administration, word press blog installation, template design and revision.
- Website hosting
- Graphics design – from logos to 125×125 ad buttons, backgrounds, buttons, signatures, photo finishing. I’ve done twitter background/e-cards, entrecard buttons, full logos, full blog templates, etc.
Him -
- Network administration
- web design – same as above
- graphics design – same as above (though he specializes more in professional themes)
- SEO optimization
- Custom music creation and editing
- Flash design
- Email marketing
As well as freelancing, I’m also offering ad space on my PR4 and PR5 blogs.
If you are considering moving your blog to a new host, PLEASE consider using BlueHost and using my link to sign up. I get a very nice commission, and you get a rock star hosting company.
I signed up with Blue Host this summer and I’ve never been happier with their service. In the past, I’d always gone with the cheapest hosting I could find – but the problem was they were never available if I needed help. It would take days for emails responses, and it was extremely frustrating. When I switched to Blue Host, I was thrilled to know they have telephone support, and they SPEAK ENGLISH, and are very helpful and professional. If you’ve been considering getting your own domain, this is the way to go – as they offer a free domain when you sign up!
If you don’t know the first thing about setting up your own hosting, I’m happy to help you do that (for free if you go through my Blue Host link!).

say wha???

So, I wrote about that stupid %$(*&$%(* mammogram that I went for last week. Today, I get a call from my dr. saying that although things looked fine, they do not feel as though they got a 100% clear view, due to “patient’s inability to withstand the compression”. I’m sorry, but what?! I never told her to stop – I held my breath when required. I breathed when I needed to. I did what I was told. She never once said “no, this isn’t working”. Now they want me to go back in 6 months and have ANOTHER $(*#$&(@*#&$ mammogram.
Wtf.
Seriously. Wtf.
I’m so sick of this election crap, too. I cannot WAIT for it to be over. I am sick of being embarassed by the fact that I STILL do not know who I want to vote for. I don’t vote just by party. But I just don’t feel comfortable with EITHER guy enough to say YES, I want him. I know, I know – alot of people are feeling this way but geez – after 18+ months of propoganda, you’d think by now, it’d be clearer to me. I know what I DO NOT want, but as you might have noticed, I don’t really like to talk about politics at all. Not on my blog, not with friends, not with hubby. Of course, with SO many bloggers who do blog about it – and know what the hell is going on – I don’t figure you NEED another blogger doing it. But I CANNOT WAIT TILL NEXT WEDNESDAY!
Of course, I know – then we’ll have a bazillion bloggers talking about the results, because no matter who wins, there’s going to be a huge portion of the population that’ll be disgruntled.
Gah.
While I’m on my little rant, can I just tell you how ridiculous it is to live in an apartment complex where they replace your thermostats with programmable ones and then program them to go down to 62 degrees at 8am in the morning, and not go back to 70 degrees until 6pm in the evening – and oh yeah, back down to 62 at 10pm. They assume that EVERYONE goes to work and school. We do not. So we wind up cold – and that’s crap. IT’s only October. When we come down in the morning, it’s 67 degrees in our house. But in January, there’s no way it’ll even get that “warm” – we’ll be forced to spend our days full dressed, and I just think it’s bullshit. Complete & total bullshit.
More bullshit? Your 3 kids are invited to a birthday party and you show up – 5 of you – eat and drink like you haven’t in days – and not even bring the birthday kid a CARD? wtF?
Now, to combat all the crap, some niceness.
Brady’s Smile. Go – read the site. Put the items you need on your shopping list. It’ll make you smile too. We’ll be doing ours this weekend. I’ll show you then.
I’m having a giveaway at my new review blog, Dawniemom Reviews. Go check it out and of course, enter!
Thankfully, I do not know anyone who needs one of these although, of course, my kid would love to have one – lol But in any case, Sony is providing these PSPs for kids who are spending lots of time in the hospital – so if you know of someone who could use this – go check it out – nominate them – and of course, help spread the world.
Only 1 of my 3 children have their costumes set. Oh and Jimmy has said we’re going shopping to stock up for like a month this weekend, because he says there’s a real possibility that we’ll be in a civil war by Wednesday depending on the election results. You’re jealous of my life – aren’t you?

More blahs
about 1 year ago - 6 comments
Things have been pretty quiet on the blogging front, mostly because things at home aren’t all wine & roses as of late.
Things have been pretty tense for a long time now. Part of it is his hours, but you know, it’s more than that.
Last weekend after they dropped me off at BlogHer, Jimmy took the kids over to the Minuteman National Forest – they toured it for a bit, and then realized that my camera (not the Nikon) was missing. They were afraid they’d left it somewhere along the trail they’d walked, so then they spent the next hour or so searching for it. All the while, Jimmy was getting increasingly pissed off at the world, and Anthony. When they finally found it – IN THE STROLLER – he headed out to take then to lunch.
Apparently, after lunch, he decided to go find the hotel, get them checked in and chilled out.
It took him an hour & a half to find the hotel. He just drove around & around, trying to find it.
Imagine how extra special his mood was then!
When I called to find out what to do about getting from the BlogHer hotel to the Homewood Suites that we were staying at, I got an idea of that mood.
In any case, after he picked me up from BlogHer, we went back to the hotel and I ordered dinner for us (yes – at 8:30).
The next morning, we got the kids up early, and I told them about where we were going – WE’RE GOING TO THE CIRCUS!!! They were very excited. We headed into Boston the long way. We got into Boston around 9:40 – plenty of time to make it to the pre show for the circus.
Herein lies the problem.
THERE ARE NO SIGNS IN THE ENTIRE CITY OF BOSTON THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE TD NORTH GARDEN OR whatever the frig they call the place.
NONE.
ZERO.
ZIP.
We spent from 9:45 to 1pm to finally give up and head home. It sucked. Big time. Big BIG time. The kids didn’t get the circus. I didn’t get my Boston fix. Nothing.
We wound up with an over priced lunch in Salem on the way home. That was it.
The entire reason why they even came with me was to go to the CIRCUS.
Sigh.
So then on Wednesday was Anthony’s birthday. We had a small party, and then yesterday, my mom, dad and 2 of my nephews came up and we had a bigger party at the park. Outside in October. In New Hampshire.
Yeah – I’m a freakin brain surgeon. We FROZE. I bought a big box of hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts, we ordered some pizzas, I bought them all swords & shields to play with. The kids didn’t freez e- they were too busy on their sugar/carb high and running around to get cold – the adults, though?
Yeah – we froze.
Here’s 9 of the 10. The last one showed an hour late.
I didn’t get the parents’ permission to post their faces, so I x’d them out.
So anyway, that’s the main reason why it’s been quiet around here. It pisses me off that even after 13 years, we can’t be in a place of solidarity when it comes to pretty much anything.

Pink for October
about 1 year ago - 3 comments
As you may have heard, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Just as Alzheimer’s is an important cause, so is breast cancer – or any cancer awareness.
As I’ve written before, and again today over at Pink for October, my Nana beat cancer TWICE. There are so many people who are dealing with cancer in some area of their lives, or themselves. I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way.
We in the mommy blogging community, I think, are even more exposed to people who are dealing with some form of cancer – THANKFULLY, there are treatments to help. Unfortunately, sometimes, they do not work – and those of us who get enthralled in their lives are hurt terribly for those who we lose.
I watched Christina Applegate on Oprah earlier this week. She was such an inspiration. Such an inspiration, in fact, I made the call yesterday to my doctor to make an appointment for my “annual” – something I haven’t actually had done in over 2 years. I’m going next Tuesday. I’ll also make an appointment for my first mammogram. I’m going to try to keep my mind off all the “possibilities” that might be hanging around in my nether regions or breasts – simply because I haven’t been checked in 2 years. I will not let the fear get to me and cancel the appointment.
For me, going Pink for October is more than just the color. It’s hopefully going to be a mind set that will sink in, once and for all, to take better care of myself, so that I do not have to walk the walk that WhyMommy or Lisa or the numerous other women that I simply do not have the emotional capacity to read.
So, although I’ve Gone Pink for October on several blogs that I either write on or have designed (and will on this one as well), it’s more than that for me this year.

Perfect Post award winner

I’m a day late & a dollar short – well, a few days short, anyway. I just found out today that Stephanie from over at Adventures in Babywearing is back to her babywearing ways – she had her baby! She, her hubby and her 3 older boys welcomed baby girl IVY to their family 2 weeks ago, and I missed the hubbub, because well – I suck
So, when I found out today, I went over and read back to her birth story and if ever there was a perfect birth story – so beautifully written that it brought tears to my eyes – this is it.
Congratulations Stephanie! She’s beautiful

Questions, Part II
about 1 year ago - Comments Off
This week, I’m taking a break from blogging so that I can get ready for the upcoming homeschool year for both Anthony and my new preschooler, Libbybug. So I thought I’d use this opportunity to answer the questions that were posed to me during my Bloggy Giveaway #1 last week. Unfortunately, britetix didn’t ask you for your URLs but if you’re reading your question here, please feel free to comment with your URL and I’ll link back to you for a lil linky love
Thanks!
Dawntrenee asks: “How do you handle that cold weather. –44”
The truth is, when it’s that cold, you try not to go out at all. The car is very sluggish to start at such cold temps, and you have to have a very good or NEW battery. You have to let the car sit there and warm up for a good, long time, and most of the time, the engine never fully warms up enough to give heat. When you drive, the sane trucks haven’t even been able to get rid of the ice because it’s just too cold to work. On those days, you don’t go out to check the mail or do anything that’s not truly NECESSARY. Fortunately, they’re not TOO often. The winter that I was pregnant with Libby was when it was horrible – I was working full time, so I had to go out in the mornings, when it was at it’s coldest. We had an old Subaru that HATED the cold. I was so miserable!
Beckie asks: “What do you do with the pictures you have printed? Family snapshots and the like?”
The sad, sad truth is, Beckie, that 99% of the photos I’ve printed are in piles on my desk or in a box. I do not have the time nor patience to sit and put them in albums LOL
Christine asks: “Am I going to win?
”
Nope.
lol
Emma asks: "I would like some tips on photographing children.”
The very best tip I’ve ever gotten or read about photographing kids was to get down on their level. Get in close. So that’s what I try to do and it’s definitely produced some nice results.
Memarie asks: “If you were to design your own perfume, what would it smell like and what would you call it?”
I used to love perfume – but now, most of them make me sneeze. So if I did design it, it’d be very light and clean smelling. I want it to linger when I’m gone, but not be so cloisome that you are wishing I’d leave right NOW!
Amanda asks: “How did you get your banner like that at the top? it’s beautiful.”
Well, since I had to change my website theme halfway through the contest, I’m not sure which banner you’re referring to, Amanda. The previous one (the one with the gerber daisies) I made myself, with a photo I took myself. This current one is just one from a theme I found online when I messed up my other one and didn’t have time to fix LOL
Ashley asks: "How do you like your eggs?"
lol I like my eggs anyway you want to cook them for me. Otherwise, I’ll take them poached – but not in water. If you poach them in water, please put them in a cup so I can drain the water off before putting them on my toast
Thanks!
Thanks for the great questions. I’ll be answering more tomorrow

Kristinia asks: “What kind of camera do you use for your digital pictures?”
Kristinia, I use a Nikon D40 that my wonderful hubby gave to me for Christmas this year. I’ve also added a nice 55-200mm lens to it which allows for some great shots from further away. I LOVE my camera. Virtually all photos that you see on my blog from 2008 is from my Nikon. However, anything before that came from my Kodak DC7630, which I also love. It takes beautiful photos – but are a different quality, I think, than the Nikon.
Rachel asks: “Did I win?”
Nope. Sorry Rachel – and next time, I’ll remember to ask for relevant questions LOL
Evan asks: “Have you ever made any money using your blog?”
Nope, not particularly. I’ve been compensated for doing product reviews, but that’s in the form of amazon gift certs.
Up until this year, I haven’t even had any ads on my blogs – and when I did put ads on them, they didn’t do any good LOL
Kara asks: “What is the best picture you have ever taken (behind the camera or otherwise)?”
This is a great question, Kara! It’s hard to say – because I’m always very critical of my photos. But I’d have to say this b & w of Zachary that I took earlier this year is by far one of my favorites.
Sara asks: What’s your favorite thing about summer?
I recently wrote about how much I actually DON’T like summer. Mainly, it’s the heat, which has become unbearable to me and seriously, it hasn’t even hit 90 more than 1x this year. The bugs. I used to enjoy it more when we lived in RI and we could escape to the water – but up here in NH, we never get to do that. So I just don’t like summer.
Thanks for the great questions! I’ll be answering more tomorrow

Everything above is very good. I checked out all the sites. Wow, I have a lot of cooking to do!
Good recipes seem to be everything, and in looking over sauce recipes I’m reminded that the sauce can change any dish into something else entirely.
Great resource here.
