Happy Birthday, Baby Girl

My baby girl. Yes, I know you’re not a baby anymore, but you’ll always be MY baby. I can’t believe how much you’ve changed in the last year. At three, you were still in diapers. You still had naps every day. You were still, essentially, a baby. Ok, a toddler. But still… a baby.

Now, look at you. Your beautiful long, blonde hair, those gorgeous blue eyes – you’ve changed, you’ve grown. Three inches in the last year! You’re already more than half my height. I love that when I tell you you’re beautiful, you simply say “I Know”. I hope that confidence stays with you, and that you always remember that you are beautiful, both inside and out.

And you are such your OWN person. You have your own ways, you’re so independant. A characteristic I want for you all your life, although 3 is a little early! But you do know what you want and that’s so GOOD, because as you grow older, there’ll be people who try to tell you what you want. And I have an idea that that’s not going to stand with you. You know when to ask for help, usually, and that’s good too. Never be afraid to ask for help, nor to offer help.

I was beyond thrilled when I found out I was pregnant with you. I’d waited so long, and wished so much to give your brother a sibling – and truthfully, a baby SISTER was exactly what I wished for. I wanted him to have someone to be a lifelong support system, and to be that support system for someone. I was thrilled to know that you two would always have each other, and that he wouldn’t have to grow up alone. Now, to know that Zachary will have you two as well – it’s just icing on the cake.

I love you, Baby Girl – no matter how much I yell or grouch. Perhaps it’s because I want so much for you, and I get frustrated in my inability to explain things on your level. But I love to listening to you talk. I love the way you say “But ACTUALLY…” and the fact that your vocabulary seems bigger than you sometimes. You have this tiny voice, but sure know how to use it when you need to get your point across!

I know there will be times where you & I won’t see eye to eye. I know that every mom & daughter goes through it. But I so dearly hope that on the other end of those times, you’ll see just how much I adore and cherish you, and that you’ll always ALWAYS have me on your side.

Happy 4th Birthday, Baby Girl. Mama loves you.

ps – Daddy loves you too! :)

another contest – oh my!

Yep, another contest for me to try to win something neat. This time, they’re hair accessories for my baby girl who REFUSES TO WEAR HAIR ACCESSORIES. What’s up with that?

Anyways, head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom and check out the contest for Madison’s Room hair clips, etc. :)

Please? For me????

it’s a love thang

I was talking to a new blog friemd yesterday on IM & we were saying how exclusively breastfeeding our children was sort of a love/hate relationship. We love doing it, but hate that it’s so time consuming. I’ve been thinking about that since then, and I’ve come to realize that it’s really just a love thing now. Yes, it’s kinda hard to just drop everything and whip out the boob cuz the kid’s hungry, but I simply can’t think of anything else I’d rather do, most times.

When I think of where we were 8 weeks ago, where I was really seriously considering switching to formula because it was just too hard to do, and how now I’m so happy that I didn’t. Zachary’s getting to an age where he’s realizing what mom’s doing as I’m getting it out and you can see in his face… he’s happy about it! “Feed me mama!” he seems to be saying.

Our time together is usually quick – he’s a fast nurser, even in the middle of the night – MOST nights, he only nurses for less than 10 minutes and he’s back to sleep. I’m grateful for that, I’ll tell ya! And during the day, even on those days when he’s at it every hour, it’s still not for long – and usually only one side. So he is a speedy lil guy, but clearly, he’s growing so apparently, he’s taking what he needs. So the time thing really isn’t an issue anymore.

I guess I’m just posting this for those moms out there that are new and are having a hard first few weeks. I want them to know it WILL get better, in most cases. I found a great way to get him to latch on, and that was probably the biggest thing to keep us breastfeeding. Because I have large breasts, Zach couldn’t seem to do more than grab onto the nipple, which was a KILLER! So those first two weeks were just horrid, and I really was hating it. I was doing it solely for him, and starting to resent it. It wasn’t until another trip to another lactation consultant that she suggested pinching my nipple AND areola together (not painfully), to compress them and then sort of shoving it into his mouth. It took some practice, but here we are, at 9 weeks & thriving :)

Don’t give up!

oooh, a contest!

I just learned about this and I’m on a deadline! 5 Minutes for Mommy is having a contest and they’re giving away a really neat Phillips Digital Photo Frame! . To say how much I’d FREAKIN LOVE THIS FRAME is an understatement. I literally have thousands of digital photos that live in my hard drive, and never get seen because I’m too cheap/lazy/etc. to print them out. lol

Go check it out.

Shots, updated

Well, despite what I expected to be a crappy day & night, he did great with his shots. He was a bit cranky, his legs a bit sore, but he slept FOR EIGHT FREAKIN HOURS that night! Of course, I put him down at 8, figuring he’d be up around 10 for his last feeding, which is what he normally does. So he slept until 5 am! Yesterday, he was fine, so I was happy :)

And he nursed EVERY FREAKIN HOUR LOL

We have an apartment inspection this week, so I’m trying to get 3 kids worth of toys, clothes and clutter organized and … umm… decluttered and he wants mama every freakin hour LOL

I’ll take that a million times over a cranky, feverish post-immunized baby :)
