hmph

OK, I found out yesterday that Friendly’s Vienna Mocha Chunk, mixed with Friendly’s Watermelon sherbert is YUMMY.

and the response I got from the two people (WOMEN!) I told was

“OMG, you are SO pregnant”

blood work, part 2

So yesterday, I downed well over 100 oz. of water in preparation for today’s foray to the dr. office to have my blood drawn – AGAIN – for the glucose test. Then, of course, the FUN of starving from the time you wake up (I woke up late at 7), until they’re done drawing the blood, which she had NO problems with this time, at 8:45. Ugh. The biggest pain of all of this is knowing that even if I pass it this time, they’ll make me do it again at 5 months. If I pass that one, they’ll make me do it again at 7 months. It sucks… yeah, yeah, I know – anything to make sure I have a healthy baby. But see, I’m not really doing anything differently anyways – I was always going to watch what I eat (mostly) – I’m not going to go out binging on ice cream, bon bons and 50 lb bags of mashed taters. Never was, never would. So this whole “testing” thing is pointless. Did I mention that she has to take it out of my hand with one of these butterfly needles, shown up there on the left? (watches a few of you cringe) – this is actually my preferred method, though.

In other news, my nausea seems to be held at bay by my frequent eating (necessary to keep diabetes that I *MIGHT* have under control anyways. I’m also trying to drink lots of water, which helps keep things… moving. The result of that water is that my boobs are filling! LOL With my weight loss, my boobs had pretty much deflated into these pathetic sacs of hanging flesh, with pointy things at the end. They’re BAAAAACK. :D :D

I’ve also noticed that my stomach has actually shrunken a bit, and that the scale, which has alwasy been my nemesis, is back to being my friend. Officially, I’ve gained nothing :D So I’m thrilled to know that. Sprout is getting what he/she needs, no matter what *I* do, so I’m happy. I did buy some folic acid today to take instead of those prenatals. Until I’m sure that my whole digestive system is back to working order, I’m not screwing it up again with those suckers!

So that’s the news from here. Anyone out there? I hear crickets. LOL

not what I wanted to hear

ring… ring…

(me) Hello?

(her) Hi Dawn, this is Pam (at the dr. office)

(me) hi pam, what’s up?

(pam) you’re not gonna like this

(me) OH BITE ME, PAM!

(her) *laughing*

(me) what do you want, pam?

(pam) they didn’t have enough blood to do your glucose screen.

(me) gee, that’s a surprise… not

(pam) yah – you need to come back in

(me) yay

(pam) so I’ll switch you over to the receptionist

(me) whatEVER.

(pam) *laughing*

Bitch.

She’s lucky I like her.

I impressed her! LOL

I met with the diabetes educator yesterday. She said it was refreshing to talk to someone who “gets it”. We talked alot about carbs, and I said how I know the difference between good ones and bad ones, etc. It’s funny, though, and scary. For the first 2 pregnancies, I followed the diet, I stayed up on my readings, I restricted my diet to make sure I stayed under those carb limits.

NOW, I’m like… that’s WAY too many carbs. LOL 45 carbs for lunch & dinner??? 30 for breakfast???? And THEN, add in snacks every 2 hrs, 15 max for each of them. O M F G

In just one day, that’s 30+15+45+15+15+45+15+15

that’s… ridiculous LOL

So anyways, that’s my update… yay. We’re heading to the ocean fora few days to teach a class and celebrate our 11th anniversary this weekend. I’m excited – I wanna go wanna go wanna go. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.

Here we go again

Well, tomorrow is my 1 hr glucose test – what this means is this:

I can’t eat after midnight tonight.

I go to the dr. office tomorrow at 8:15 and they take my blood, then make me drink this nasty – nasty – NASTY sweet stuff (great on an empty stomach). Then I sit down and wait for an hour. At 9:15, they draw my blood again, and then they’ll see how my body processed the nasty – nasty – NASTY sweet stuff. THEN I get to eat.

They’re doing it early because I had gestational diabetes with both kids before. The first time, they tested me at 7 months. The 2nd time, they tested me at 4 months (I was diagnosed 2 days before THANKSGIVING). This time, 9 WEEKS!

So, I DO have something to look forward to, though. I do have an appointment with the nutritionist – that’ll help me figure out what to eat without gaining any of that 82 lbs that I’ve lost – now I don’t mean I won’t gain any with the BABY – but I don’t want to gain any that I’m gonna KEEP. So I’m hopeful that’ll help.

And tonight, I had a SMALL amount of macaroni (chop suey, with hamburger and tomatoes in it – Y U M). And I had a small amount of steak. I checked my blood one hour later and it was 75. Whoa… that’s low, so I checked it again, figuring I hadn’t used enough blood. 75 again. Now this is just weird. One more time (yes, one more prick with the pokey thing) – 74! LOL So, I’m thinking I might just PASS this damned test for once! (yay)

PS – I lied – no 1st poke, just drink that nasty crap and then wait an hr. and be poked (badly)… then go eat and ya know, get the whole nausea thing going cuz it’s been so long since you ate.
